According to the remake director Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, Capcom embraced the same approach as the original and discussed the story behind the characters.

Our approach was quite detailed. Instead of saying, Oh, this is what we had to do in the original – because of its technological limitations that can now be corrected, we took 100 small components that made up the original game. Remade and polished these buildings and blocks – we’ve managed to do that again. That remake is often summed up in many parts.

Hirabayashi also promises that this time, there’ll be more focus on characters and drama.

We developed drama to match the characters, particularly the interaction between them and their personalities. In that sense, that original game was more playable. Story scenes were mostly used to keep the game pace. The development of the single-player story games has been difficult, so it was important to incorporate the content from the storyline. In that sense, we tried to make the remake feel completely modern and story-driven.

The sequel “Resident Evil” is coming from the PC, Xbox X/S, PS4 and PS5 on March 24, 2023.
