When Black Myth: Wukong was first revealed, there was immense buzz and intrigue about the game Game Science Interactive Technology Co. This will be the studio’s first game, but the initial reveal made such an impression, it’s been talked about ever since.
The game is inspired by the novel Journey to the West from the 16th Century, with players taking control of the titular Wukong on his travels through the rich lands that are embued with Chinese myth.
As can be expected from a Soulslike, there will be an emphasis on challenging combat and over-the-top bosses. We can also expect exploration to play a key role throughout the game, as we indulge in the ancient world and everything that inhabits it.

Are there any Black Myth: Wukong gameplay details?
The first glimpse we got of Black Myth: Wukong was the 13-minute gameplay trailer displayed above. It highlights the Soulslike combat we have come to expect, showing off a variety of enemies and the staff we will be using throughout the game.
It also showed off the world, the atmosphere of the locations, and the commitment to the traditional Chinese myth. The footage above is pre-alpha, so it was always subject to change but gave us a great flavour of what we can expect upon full release.
What engine is Black Myth: Wukong using?
In 2021, another extended gameplay trailer was released to promote the game moving over to Unreal Engine 5.
Unreal Engine 5 is the most recent version of the engine built by Epic Games and has already seen games like Fortnite, Remnant 2 and the recently released Immortals of Aveum commit to using it.
Are there any Black Myth: Wukong trailers?
There have been plenty of trailers for Black Myth: Wukong so far, including the two we have shown above. In total five trailers have been released showing off the game; some have focused more on gameplay, whilst others have given a greater insight into the story and the world. There have also been some developer deep dives, discussing the development of the game on the Studios YouTube channel.
The above trailer was to celebrate the New Year but was not representative of the plot. Instead, it used gameplay to celebrate the upcoming year of the Ox.
The next trailer was a six-minute cutscene taken directly from the game. We also got a feel for what we can expect from the voice acting in the game, as well as the score.
The most recent trailer showed off some of the environments in the game, accompanied by more of the original soundtrack we can expect in Black Myth: Wukong.
