Ragnarok lost his last game of the year to Elden Ring at The Game Awards. The two were locked in a fight for the coveted award that saw FromSoftwares open-world RPG take the prize home. The sequel of the God of War has won six awards from the event.

The God of War is coming to Amazon.

The Santa Monica Studios did not take home the Game of the Year trophy. However, its popular video game series got something as awesome as it is. Amazon Prime Video has announced it is ordering a live adaptation of God of War.

The TV series will be based on the 2018 video game, which is basically a soft reboot of God of War. The show will be headed by Rafe Judkins, who will be the showrunner. Judkins worked on Amazon Prime’s Wheel of Time TV show.

In the upcoming TV show, we will see Kratos leave the Norse realm of Midgard after a battle with the Greek Gods. After the death of his wife, Kratos sets off with his son Atreus to spread his ashes up to the highest peak. The journey tests the relationship between father and son as they battle the Norse Gods.

Kratos and Atreus will be spending an epic adventure in the new Amazon Prime TV show.

God of War is written by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. Fergus and Ostby co-wrote the children’s book, which was nominated for an academy award. The pair wrote the screenplay for the first movie Ironman.

In conjunction with Yumi Yang, Santa Monica Studios Creative Director Cory Barlog will produce the show executively. Playstation Productions Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan and Vertigos Roy Lee are also going to be executive producers of the TV series. The show will go co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television in collaboration with PlayStation Studios.

“God of War is a compelling, character-driven franchise that we believe will captivate our global customers as much with its expansive and immersive worlds as well as his rich storytelling,” said Vernon Sanders in an announcement. We have the honor to share in such a momentous journey that, with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Santa Monica Studios, explore the god of war mythology.

“We’re very proud and excited to work with our friends at Amazon Studios and PlayStation Productions to make this beautiful and heartbreaking game an outstanding live-action series,” said Kimie Pope. “Rafe, Mark and Hawk are crafting a transportive series to tell a story of a path through the ancient mythological journey of Kratos.”

The Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios will be co-producing the next TV series.

“God of War is one of PlayStation’s most awarded video games, so we would jog Sony Pictures Television and the Amazon studio to bring our beloved franchise to fans and new audiences in a bold and authentic way,” said Asad Qizilbash, publisher of PlayStation Productions.

The last video game that has live-action television. While Netflix is releasing The Last of Us this January, Amazon will also produce Fallout TV series. Paramount has a set-up for 343 Industries Halo and Peacock has finished filming the first season for Twisted Metal.

Amazon hasn’t announced that the actor who will be playing Kratos in the upcoming TV show will be announced soon. We haven’t got a release window yet. We’ll keep you updated as the information is shared about the show.
