Activision will fight any FTC challenge regarding Microsoft takeover


    Activision Blizzard has said that it will fight any challenge from the FTC in regards to the $68.7 billion acquisition by tech giant Microsoft.

    In a Politico report, it is stated that the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) is “probable” to file a lawsuit against the proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard. If that happens, Activision is said to come out to fight.

    However, it is also reported that, as of this writing, the FTC commissioners have yet to vote against the proposed acquisition. Additionally, it is also believed that FTC representatives are “skepticalon Activision and Microsoft’s arguments toward the acquisition.

    If the FTC is against the proposed acquisition, it is claimed that the yet-to-be-finalized Microsoft deal could be taken to court as early as December 2022. The report claims that like UK-based regulators; the acquisition could be perceived as “an unfair boost in the video game market”.

    However, in response to the report, Activision Blizzard executive Lulu Meservey has stated that any challenge from the FTC in the US will be met with a “struggle” to ensure that the Microsoft agreement is carried out.

    If Microsoft’s deal goes through, it’s expected to end in June 2023. That’s at least according to Activision. However, there will undoubtedly be a lot of bumps in the round until then.
